Annual Literacy
Project
Each year, the Spokane Chapter
organizes two reading/writing rallies. One is held at an area
elementary school, and the other is held at the Boys and Girls
Club.
The purpose for the reading
rallies is to provide children with an opportunity to create
a story and write it in a book of their own making. In addition,
illustrators are on hand to help bring their stories to life
with simple pictures. The highlight of these events are the
authors who provide inspiration and real-life advice.
Educational
Scholarships
Each year the Spokane Chapter awards educational
scholarships to area high school juniors and to adult students
who are improving their lives with higher education. See our
Scholarships page for
the most current details.
Other Events
Spokane Chapter members also support many
community events/organizations. Over the years, Chapter members
have collected donations for the YWCA Sister's Closet; food
for area food banks; donated Easter baskets for elderly persons;
raised money for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life;
donated books to the Boys and Girls Club; donated latex gloves
to the Women's and Children's Free Restaurant; donated diapers
and formula to the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery; and helped
build houses with Habitat for Humanity, just to name a few.
